We took it easy the next morning as I had stayed up late catching up on photos from the previous day. Besides, the game was scheduled for a noon start and Mitchell wanted to get there early for batting practice to get autographs. This was one of Mitchell's most successful autograph hunting games. He got signed balls by Curtis Granderson, Dmitri Young, Joel Zumaya, and Craig Monroe.
Jacobs Field is a fine stadium all around. It was the trendsetter for downtown revitalization projects that are centered around a baseball stadium (cities like Baltimore and Houston were to follow). The stadium has great access, excellent food, a nice gift shop, and nice seating areas with good leg room.
The game was a pitcher's duel, and we got to see two of the American League's best: rookie Justin Verlander and the Indian's C.C. Sabathia. Verlander won AL Rookie of the Year in 2006 and Sabathia would win the Cy Young in 2007. Verlander had the better outing this time and the Tigers won 4-1. We also got to see flame thrower Joel Zumaya pitch as well as fine relievers Todd Jones and Rafael Betancourt.
After the game we drove to Ohiopyle State Park in Pennsylvania and took some photos of the waterfalls. The falls were a bit low and needed a good rain, as is typical for falls in this area in the summer. Afterwards we spent the night in Somerset Pennsylvania.
