Since we got into our hotel in Pittsburgh so late, I needed rest before driving to South Carolina. On the way down, I realized we were only a few miles from Babcock State Park in West Virginia so we took a detour and saw the famous Glade Creek Grist Mill. It was not the ideal time of year to photograph the mill (search the net for images of the mill with fall foliage around it), but we did have nice soft light that day and we were the only visitors around. Mitchell and I both enjoyed the park quite a bit, and after taking photos, we toured the mill as well as the gift shop (where I bought my obligatory t-shirt).
We stayed a bit too long at Babcock State Park and did not leave until about 2:30pm or so. We drove through the rest of West Virginia, Virginia, and then into North Carolina where we ate a very late dinner in Charlotte and then to Anderson South Carolina where we spent the night.
Despite spending so much time in the car we had a nice day and saw a lot of the country that we had not seen before. During the trip Mitchell would enjoy the scenery, play a video game, listen to music with me, or read. He has always enjoyed riding in car on a long trip so he never went stir crazy in the car. I got tired driving at times, since most trips this long I have my wife to assist with the driving when I get tired. But I was careful not to eat too much sugar (other than ice cream at ball games) that could make me feel tired and that helped a lot.
