Find Feller

On a recent trip to Bryce Canyon, I was tempted to pull a practical joke by bursting into the Visitor's Center and frantically telling the park rangers that we had lost our pet golden retriever "Feller" somewhere in the canyon. I would also announce that he is deaf (which he really is not) and that all my kids were very upset. Since the color of the Bryce Canyon sandstone is very similar to the color of a golden retriever, it would be a nightmare to find a deaf golden retriever in the middle of Bryce Canyon and thus I would have everyone quite upset!

I resisted the temptation to pull that joke on the park rangers (they are fortunate that I am older and wiser now), but instead decided to use a gigapixel image (stitched together from many smaller images) and hide an image of Feller in the canyon. This resulted in "Find Feller 1" below. I have since created other "Find Feller" images for your enjoyment (with more to come). Please note that the searches range widely in level of difficulty.

Click on one of the links below to begin your search for Feller "Lost in the Hoodoos" of Bryce Canyon. If you find him, please email me at dwa652@gmail.com and let me know how long it took you, which image you searched, and your state/country of residence. There is a stopwatch that you can start before you begin if you wish to time yourself. I hope to add more opportunities to "Find Feller" in the future so be sure visit again soon.

FIND FELLER 1 (Difficult)  This first one, an image of Bryce Canyon from Inspiration Point (just over 1 gigapixel), is pretty tough. My oldest son took over 3 hours to find Feller. So I suggest allowing some time to find my poor lost doggie. If you cannot find him and want to give up, check back as I will post some hints and a solution soon.

FIND FELLER 2 (Moderately Difficult)  Feller has moved on before we could get to him so we have moved to a different overlook to see if we can find him. This second one, an image of Bryce Canyon from Sunset Point, is much easier than "Find Feller 1" (it is 1.4 gigapixels, but I promise it is much easier!). Please email me when you find him and let me know how long it took you (again, there is a timer below the image that you can use if you wish to time yourself). Once I get a lot of samples I will post the average time here.

FIND FELLER 3 (Fairly Easy)  Poor Feller. He has been out for a day now and he is hot and tired. He has been moving around and so have we. Now we find ourselves at Sunrise point yet it is sunset now. This search is the easiest so far (358 megapixel image) - see how quick you can find our tired doggie! Please email me when you find him and let me know how long it took you (again, there is a timer below the image that you can use if you wish to time yourself). Once I get a lot of samples I will post the average time here.

FIND FELLER 4 (Easy !!)  Feller traveled quite a bit through the night. Now we have moved up north to Fairyland Point after a good night's sleep. This is an easy one (only 132 megapixels) and if the previous three searches have left you weary this search should provide some satisfaction. Average time so far is just over 5 minutes.
