Baseball Vacation 2006
Several years ago my wife and I decided that, when each child turns 10 years old, they could go on a one on one trip with a parent, anywhere they wanted to in the USA. At that time we had in mind a simple weekend or 3-4 day trip.
When our oldest son Mitchell turned 10, he decided that he wanted to go on a trip to see baseball games in different stadiums. Since we plan to go on a family vacation to the northeast in a few years, and since we have already been to most of the western US stadiums, he decided upon stadiums in the midwest area of the US. I did not object, since I had threatened my wife that we would spend our honeymoon seeing 8 baseball games in 8 midwest cities in 8 days (to her credit, she was only mildly against this idea), and always wanted to go on a good baseball trip.
Since I had a serious auto accident a number of years ago, I prefer to drive since I get vertigo from long flights. Driving also would allow us to visit other places more easily on the way there and back. Well, since we were driving the trip soon grew in duration, and ended up being 18 days.
I am not a professional sports photographer, but am serious enough of a photographer that I decided on box seats near the dugout for many of the games to try and get some good photos. I also went up high and shot the view from behind home plate for each of the stadiums. So I hope you enjoy the web account of our odyssey and maybe consider going on such a trip yourself.
Below are collections of photographs from each game, as well as a brief narrative of each day/game. The photographs and narratives could never do justice to how wonderful the trip was for both Mitchell and I, but hopefully they will give you a flavor of such an adventure.
